How photonics can support your innovation

Fibre optic communication systems are the basis for the internet and modern wireless communication systems. Photonics is also used everywhere in ICT, from optical fibres to photonic integrated circuits (PICs), ultra-compact cameras, laser-machining, smart displays and micro-optics. The smartphone would simply not exist without photonics.

Photonics technologies used for digital infrastructure are being harnessed to reduce power consumption, footprint and cost. This makes their use in other applications very competitive.

Enhancing Visual Comfort in Virtual Reality through Adaptive Eye-Tracking Lenses

AcomoEye is developing a breakthrough technology that improves visual comfort in VR headsets by integrating high-speed eye-tracking and focus-tunable lenses. The project aims to solve the long-standing vergence–accommodation conflict, which causes eye strain and discomfort in VR. With support from ACTPHAST, AcomoEye is designing an innovative lens prototype that dynamically adjusts focus based on where the user is looking, enabling a more natural and immersive VR experience.
